Through ink and imagery, Art in Rescue honors the remarkable work of animal rescue. Each hand drawn sketch features an animal along with their journey to sanctuary. A portion of all sales is donated to shelters and sanctuaries in support of their essential rescue work.

Ofra Laya Isler, Artist & Founder

I’m an activist first and an artist second. Inspired by the beautiful animals who are given second chances to live a life in peace, I am bringing my passion for art and animal rights together through Art in Rescue. After living in Manhattan and Tel Aviv, I’ve returned to the Bay Area, along with my two rescue kitties, and am once again calling California my home.

Living in big cities, I was completely disconnected from the world of animal agriculture. I had become a vegetarian when I was much younger, but did not fully comprehend the scope of animal cruelty. About ten years ago, during my travels, I was confronted with the atrocities committed against animals in the food system. With this, I began my path to veganism and animal advocacy.

One of my biggest artistic inspirations has been my own grandfather, Melvin. He was an incredibly talented and accomplished artist with a sharp wit and sense of humor that bordered on shocking. With a long career in commercial animation, calligraphy, and teaching, in addition to cryptography in World War II, he was a highly respected artist.  Puzzles and riddles especially ignited his curiosity, and he was known to experiment with wordplay and fantastical mazes. He encouraged me to pursue my artistic passions and I was grateful to be able to share some of my drawings with him before he passed.

My hope for this project is to create a space where art and rescue intertwine and where people can discover the beauty of rescued animals living their lives in peace.
